PAPUA - The Para Raider Infantry Battalion 501/Bajra Yudha Kostrad, part of the HABEMA Operational Command, launched the "Smart Papua" initiative on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Asiafsaman Elementary School in Aifat Selatan District, Maybrat Regency, Southwest Papua Province. This effort is part of TNI’s mission to combine security operations with community empowerment along the border between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea.
The school, which had been closed for a long time, is now reopened and reactivated, bringing hope and joy to the community. Led by Lieutenant Colonel Yakhya Wisnu Arianto, soldiers from the Kotis Susumuk Post worked closely with the school’s teachers and residents to clean the environment, repair facilities, and provide learning materials. They also conducted teacher training sessions to improve the quality of education.
Parents and residents of Asiafsaman Village actively participated in the school’s reopening, demonstrating their enthusiasm and commitment to education. Mrs. Bonita Fani, the newly appointed principal, expressed her gratitude: “We are very grateful to Commander 501 for helping us reopen the school. Education is the key to our children’s future.”
Lieutenant Colonel Yakhya emphasized the importance of meeting the community’s needs through active communication. "The 'Smart Papua' program is part of our effort to listen to the local community and respond to their needs, " he said.
The HABEMA Commanding General, Brigadier General Lucky Avianto, commended the 501 Task Forces for their social communication efforts and dedication to regional development. "This initiative reflects TNI’s commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for Papua’s progress, " he said.
The “Smart Papua” program aims to ensure that children in Asiafsaman Village receive a proper education, equipping them with the skills they need for the future. The program also strengthens the bond between TNI and the local community, promoting a sense of hope and optimism for the region’s development.
